Writing Boredom: Regret

A combination of cheese, tomatoes, and manicotti pasta fell down towards the ground and arrived with a huge crash as the platter smashed into sharpened pieces. Heath stared down at the mess he had created, refusing to look directly at Sera. He tried to contain himself as she uttered those words, but no amount of self-control or anger management classes could have stopped him from venting out his frustration on the ruined meal. Unable to stop, Heath walked towards the dining table and put his hands down as to suggest a menacing demeanour of anger and dissatisfaction.

“Say that again.” Heath commanded. “So that I can apologize for not hearing you correctly.” And with no hesitation whatsoever, Sera replied with:

“I got a sugar daddy. Should I tell you who he is? I will be modelling for his company, after all.”

Smash. Another piece of tableware thrown across the room to meet its sorry end. Heath breathed heavily as if to show that that piece of news exasperated him to the point of fatigue. He still was unable to look at Sera, knowing that if he did, it wouldn’t end well for either of them. He returned back to his previous stance of threat, but with his head down.

“Fuck, she’s so blunt about it.” He muttered under his breath. He paused to calm himself, and then said the words he wished he would never have had to say to this woman. “I’m breaking up with you right now. Although there isn’t the slightest chance that I’ll ever take you back, but know this if you aren’t dumb.” He stood up and looked down at her, while she remained still and avoiding eye contact by looking at the stop that was once occupied by her pasta dish. “I fucking loved you. You’ll probably never meet someone who loved you as much as I did. I’m letting you know so you can regret it sometime in the future.”

“How much could you have possibly loved me?” Looking down at Sera with eyes of emptiness and anguish, those were the final words that Heath heard before leaving that apartment forever.

Sugar Daddy: (noun) a wealthy, middle-aged man who spends freely on a young woman in return for her companionship or intimacy.
